ROADS AND STREETS IN OLD PLYMOUTH - A-Z INDEX EXETER STREET Benjamin Donn's "Plan of the Town and Citadel of Plymouth" shows Bittons Side, later Briton Side and Breton Side, running from Martyn's Gate, at the eastern end of Lower Broad Street, all the way to Hawk Street. By 1812, the section between North Street, then known as Old Tree or Old Penny Lane, eastwards to what was then Higher Street, had become Exeter Street.
