WIDEY HIGH SCHOOL
Widey High School was formerly known as Widey Technical Secondary School and was located off Widey Lane, Plymouth.
In 1972, by order of the Local Examination Board, the School dropped the word "technical" and changed its name to Widey High School. This was because the curriculum had altered so much that it was now teaching the same subjects as ordinary secondary schools. It is not known exactly when the change of name was implemented.
Widey High School closed down in July 1988. The last headmaster was Mr Gordon Hurst. The School made a generous donation to Saint Luke's Hospice, resulting in the library and seminar area being named the Widey Room in its honour.
