GEORGE SHILLIBEER (1758-1833)
George Shillibeer was allegedly born in the Parish of Sheepstor in 1758 and by 1810 had become the churchwarden of Sheepstor Parish Church.
On October 17th 1787 George Shillibeer, blacksmith, of 'Shipstor', married by licence Sarah Andrew, a widow stated to be of Stoke Damerel, at Stoke Damerel Parish Church.
In 1793 Plymouth Corporation appointed George Shillibeer as agent and superintendent of the Plymouth Leat from the Head Weir down to Jump, a village later known as Roborough.
Mrs Sarah Shillibeer was buried at Sheepstor Parish Church on September 27th 1829. Her age was given as 87 years, making her 16 years older than her husband.
Mr George Shillibeer died at Sheepstor on August 22nd 1833 and was buried at Sheepstor Parish Church on August 25th 1833. He was 75 years of age.
