SUTTON ROAD BOARD SCHOOL
The Sutton Road Board School, Coxside, was officially opened on the evening of July 12th 1875 by the Mayor of Plymouth, Mr W F Moore (1815-1886).
In 1888 the average attendance was 120 girls and 150 infants under Miss Florence Goodman and Mrs Lucy Trobridge respectively.
At the time of the opening ceremony the cost of purchasing the site was said to have been £492 14s 4d and the cost of the buildings, £1,993 5s 10d.
Following the transfer of responsibilities for education from the Plymouth School Board to the Plymouth Local Education Authority, as from April 1st 1903 the Sutton Road Board School became the Sutton Road Elementary School.
