ROADS AND STREETS IN OLD PLYMOUTH

HYDE PARK ROAD

The section of Hyde Park Road between Gifford Terrace Road and Langill Road was known as Hyde Park Terrace.

At number 1 Hyde Park Terrace, on the corner with Gifford Terrace Road,
was the wool and needlework shop of Miss Winifred Ethel Leverton (1910-2001).

In addition to Miss Leverton there was also a Miss Maureen Pearce, ladies' hairdresser and at the rear of the property the Tamar Clothing Club, a credit drapers, run by Mr E H Chanter.

In Hyde Park Terracein 1955 there, from next door to Miss Leverton, a butchers, a florists, a general shop, a house decorator, a boot repair shop, another  ladies' hairdressers, a confectioners, a tobacconists, a chemists, another butchers, a cooked meat dealer, and a fishmonger.  No need to struggle home with the shopping from the City Centre or even Mutley Plain in those days.
